New Bakanta

Anyanzinli DA Basic School was established in 1996 to serve the education needs of children in the Anyanzinli- Bakanta community. In 2012, the JHS was established with 4 teachers and 32 students. The school has grown significantly over the years as it currently serves about 300 students from Anyanzinli and some neighboring communities.

One of the major problems of the school is the poor English literacy proficiencies of students which affects their overall academic achievements in other subject areas. Several factors continue to perpetuate this challenge. Chief among them is the lack of books and a library.

The importance of a school library can not be over emphasized. A library is an important source of knowledge to young minds in schools. It develops the important habit of reading among the students. Every school should have a library! We believe that establishing a library for leaners in Anyanzinli will mark an important milestone to improving student’s ability to read and write and ultimately improve their love for learning. This will greatly impact positively on the academic achievement of the students as students can perform better by reading various books.

A library will also consolidate the work of the classroom teacher and ensure each student has equitable access to resources, irrespective of home opportunities or constraints. This need is urgent and requires action as soon as it is possible.
