Ekumfi

The Ekumfi Spot is a community-based Spot located at Attakwaa in the Ekumfi District in Central Region. Situated on the Essakyir-Ajumako road.

The Spot was established to enhance education in Attakwaa and its environs. The Spot is equipped with a variety of books and learning tools to facilitate learning for all. Another reason for the establishment of the Spot is to equip Spot users with digital skills, using computers that are powered by satellite connectivity.

The visionary behind the Spot was the late Professor Kwesi Andam, who collaborated with Professor John Knapton of Newcastle University to establish this valuable resource. Students from Newcastle University later played a crucial role in completing the Spot. The community lacked a dedicated space for students to engage in learning activities. Concerned about the children of Attakwaa learning under a streetlight, Professor Kwesi Andam initiated a meeting with the traditional council to find a solution.

With the help of EduSpots, the Spot has more than 1000 books for different age groups, a laptop, 2 tablets and other reference materials like dictionaries, maps, atlas etc, to support Catalysts in their strand sessions. Catalysts at the Spot have successfully incorporated ICT into their activities. The Spot is currently running strands like EduKidz, EcoSTEM and Ignite Equity. Since the establishment of the Spot, learners spend most of their leisure time in the Spot reading books, doing group work and assignments.

These interventions have raised the standard of education in Ekumfi and its environs. The improved quality of education has empowered students to pursue their academic goals by gaining admission to leading secondary schools and tertiary institutions

As the world is evolving and society is also dynamic, we want to reach our children in all domains of learning while improving their digital skills. To achieve this goal, the community is seeking additional support to equip the Spot with IT tools such as computers, laptops, and projectors.
