Katanga -Zuarungu Spot is located at Zuarungu, Bolga East District in the Upper East Region. The Spot is situated in Afeghera Model Girls JHS. It operates as a School -Based Spot.
The spot was formed in November 2024 with four (4) Catalysts, twenty-five Ignite Equity Sparks (learners registered as part of the Ignite Equity club) and Catalysts engaged in the Spot Lead strand.
The spot was founded by Madam Gifty Ayelgum, the Headmistress of the school, who happened to be a former Catalyst of Dulugu Spot.
Through the support and motivation from the Catalysts at the Dulugu Spot, who used to allow our learners to use their science laboratory for practical science activities and also allowed them to read and borrow some story books from their Spot.
Currently, the Spot runs the Ignite Equity and Ecostem strands for learners and the Spot Lead and Keeping Spot Safe strands for Catalysts, with a total number of 43 Sparks with an age range of 11-15. The number of Catalysts has also increased from 4 to 6, who are all permanent teachers of Afeghera Model Girls JHS.
EduSpot has supported us with grants to renovate the Spot through the Catalysed Leadership Program. We also received 3 tablets, storybooks, and pads for the girls, just to mention a few.
These motivated the Sparks to be confident in themselves and to be able to work together as a team.
The vision of the spot is to build confidence and awareness in Sparks and the community as a whole on the importance of education, gender stereotyping, human rights abuse, and some outmoded cultural practices like forced child marriages. We are also working towards the possibility of getting a bigger learning space, which could be used by Sparks and the entire community.
