The Big Give Christmas Challenge 2024: Double Your Difference!

In just 8 days, EduSpots will launch its fourth Big Give Christmas Challenge! This year, we’re aiming to raise £8,000, which will be matched to reach an incredible total of £16,000.

Here’s the best part: every pound you donate through The Big Give platform will be DOUBLED—but only if donations are made via the designated link. The challenge will take place from Tuesday 3rd December (midday) to Tuesday 10th December (midday). We will share the link once we launch the appeal by midday of 3 December 2024.

The situation

Digital inequity continues to widen, disproportionately affecting education, healthcare, and employment opportunities.

In Ghana, digital access is severely limited in the rural areas where we work, where internet uptake rates are at 54% compared to 80% in urban areas (World Bank). Our 2023 study revealed that 50% of learners at the Spots lacked access to digital devices, leaving them to study ICT concepts on chalkboards—a stark gap we’re determined to close.

Our solution

The funds raised will support over 10,000 learners and 400 Catalysts in underserved communities by providing essential digital tools, including tablets, laptops, wifi kits, and projectors that will be owned by communities and housed in our existing network of education spaces.

Alongside the distribution of these tools, we will also embed in-demand training in digital skills and online safety within our existing range of programmes for both learners and Catalysts, both through in-person and online training.

The breakdown

Here’s how your donation will directly support our mission:

• £9,000 for devices, wifi kits, and security units.

• £3,000 for staffing costs to support digital training and roll-out.

• £2,000 for Spot visits and training Academies.

• £2,000 for monitoring, evaluation and learning, including further app development.

If we fall short of our goal, all funds will still contribute toward these priorities. If we exceed it, we’ll expand our training and resource provision even further!

4. Plan a dress-down day or office party and collect donations for EduSpots.

5. Share our stories of change! Spread the word on social media and include our donation link to inspire others to contribute.

6. Donate the cost of a coffee. Just £3 can give a learner access to a digital learning space for an entire year—and doubling takes it to 2 learners!
