We are excited to announce our Catalyst for April 2025, Elvis Kwofie from the Elmina Spot, a changemaker whose journey is a powerful reminder that with purpose, passion, and teamwork, transformation is possible.
Elvis’s journey with EduSpots began in an impactful way at Adom Prep School, when the network supported the construction/renovation of a classroom block to be used as a library with bookshelves, books and T-shirts. What may have seemed like a simple gesture triggered a bigger vision in him.
“I saw it as an opportunity to give back to the community in a way that is not limited only to the learners I was teaching.”
Thanks to the encouragement of his headteacher and the immediate effect of EduSpots’ generosity, Elvis felt called to lead beyond the classroom, determined to make a broader impact in the Elmina community.
What keeps Elvis going is the smiles of learners and the opportunity to grow personally and professionally.
“The training, mentorship, and support go beyond volunteerism; they help us grow professionally and in life.”
EduSpots’ consistent training, coaching, and peer support have shaped his leadership and kept his enthusiasm alive. The belief that learning and impact go hand in hand has become the foundation of his work.
While the Catalyst of the Month recognition came as a surprise to him, Elvis’s consistency and dedication speak volumes.
“I always said to myself, I’m not stopping until I prove to society that we can do something together as a team to support the learners.”
Even in the face of doubt, fatigue, and criticism, the needs and aspirations of the learners gave him strength. He chose perseverance, and it paid off.
Behind every strong leader is a network of support. For Elvis, mentorship has played a defining role in his Catalyst journey.
He recounted Nafisa Botorah, 2024 EduLit Peer Mentor’s, unwavering encouragement during the EduLit phase and how Carlos Adu Boahen, Catalyst Committee Chair’s guidance helped him navigate key safeguarding responsibilities. These relationships, built through trust and shared purpose, have helped him grow through every phase of his journey.
Though he has often led on projects, he acknowledges the role of other Catalysts like Abakah Emmanuel Nyame, whose support during crucial moments made a real difference. The presence, encouragement, and commitment of fellow team members fuel Elvis’s motivation.
Elvis’s vision for Elmina Spot is bold and inspiring:
“In five years, I want our spot to be the best in the network. We’ll run all EduSpots strands and have volunteers and learners who serve as living testimonials to our impact.”
He dreams of a Spot where volunteers grow into professionals, learners become leaders, and the community thrives through education and innovation.
And he’s not stopping there. Elvis is eager to support EduSpots at a broader level by helping to attract partners and donors who believe in sustainable, grassroots-driven change.
“I hope to bring in partners and donors in the years to come.”
To anyone walking a similar path or dreaming of creating change, Elvis offers a powerful reminder:
“Work in a team, share responsibilities, communicate, collaborate, and be committed. And most importantly, don’t give up. Be resilient and persevere.”
