In June, Emmanuel Adjei begins a 10,000km cycling journey, travelling from Munich to his hometown in Teshie, Ghana.
Through this solo adventure, which he believes is the first of its kind for an African, Emmanuel aims to raise €100,000 for EduSpots, a Ghanaian and UK registered NGO, whilst also inspiring others to support education and enjoy cycling across the African continent.
Through this appeal, and other sponsorship, EduSpots aims to expand the network of Spots from 50 to 100 in 2026, as we mark their 10th anniversary this year.
Emmanuel, born in Accra, works as a sports scientist at his university’s hospital for sports medicine and sports cardiology in Munich.
Emmanuel comments: “I am driven to use cycling to mobilize funds, support, and raise awareness to ignite and sustain community-led change through education and empowerment in underserved Ghanaian communities.” (Emmanuel Adjei, 2025)
The background story
Emmanuel’s passion for cycling began whilst growing up in Ghana, which he describes as a “sports-enthusiastic nation”. He first learnt to cycle whilst riding his father’s bicycle without permission, but lacked the cycling infrastructure to support him in Ghana.
In time, he rekindled his passion for cycling in Munich, Germany where cycling enjoys a higher precedence among the city dwellers. Since 2020, he has expanded his cycling experiences to include road cycling and bikepacking, embarking on numerous adventures across Europe.
This project, Bike2My Roots aims to bridge the gap in educational opportunity that he has observed first-hand in Ghana – he hopes to “use the power of sports – cycling – to champion education.
His journey serves as a platform to increase awareness of the importance of education in transforming lives whilst raising funds to support sustainable and localized education initiatives.
He also hopes to inspire action and representation, encouraging others to pursue their dreams while giving back to society and creating a levelled playing field for inclusive participation.

Emmanuel’s journey begins on the 7th June 2025 with an expected arrival in Ghana on 7th September 2025.
