We are excited to announce that EduSpots has signed a memorandum of understanding with Ghana Library Authority, as the two organisations come together to support education in the Teshie community.
The mandate of the Ghana Library Authority is to establish, equip, maintain and manage public libraries in Ghana, with 138 library branches across the country.
Alongside overseeing public library spaces, the Ghana Library Authority has collated an extensive digital library housed on their app, with an increasing focus on digital tools and training across their nationwide branches.
EduSpots is a Ghanaian and UK registered charity that works alongside 400 local changemakers named Catalysts to create and sustain 50 community-led education spaces (libraries) named ‘Spots’, involving over 10,000 learners in future-ready education annually.
Both organisations share a deep commitment to promoting reading, digital skills training and wider education in Ghana and beyond for learners of all ages, as a tool for personal growth, social inclusion, and wider community development.
Following a competitive application process, EduSpots has selected the Teshie Community Library for enrollment into its diverse network of learning hubs, working closely alongside Ghana Library Authority Teshie Branch Lead, Olivia Lamptey, and Regional Librarian for Greater Accra, Edward Addo-Yobo, in this process.
Whilst the Ghana Library Authority holds responsibility for running Teshie Community Library, the EduSpots team will support the local team in running a range of clubs for learners across early years education (EduKidz), Digital Literacy (DigiLit), STEM and environmental education (EcoSTEM) and gender equity (Ignite Equity), based on the community’s interest, alongside a Keeping Spots Safe certificate and digital skills training.
As part of the partnership, EduSpots will also invite local volunteers in Teshie and Ghana Library Authority staff to join a range of leadership, education and safeguarding training, also collaborating with over 400 local educational Catalysts across Ghana and beyond.
This partnership has been catalysed through the efforts of Emmanuel Adjei and his remarkable Bike2MyRoots cycling campaign. Across the past 103 days, Emmanuel has travelled an historic 10,000km journey on bike from Munich to Accra, raising funds for EduSpots in this process.
Emmanuel has been cheered along the way by the Bayern Munich footballer Glódís Perla, snowboarder Leon Beckhaus and athletes Jana Lakner and Alexander Askovic amongst many others including Professor Elsie Effah Kaufmann, EduSpots’ Patron.
As part of his campaign, which is dedicated to supporting the expansion of EduSpots’ work across Ghana, Emmanuel Adjei has raised funds to refurbish the Teshie Community Library in his home community. He has also worked with his family and the Ghana Library Authority team to support Teshie in applying to join the EduSpots network, therefore accessing the network, training and resource benefits that EduSpots offers.
As a result, among other items, EduSpots is also donating 5 tablets, a wifi kit, laptop and projector, alongside an estimated 2000 books to Teshie Community Library including new books by Africa authors, new books from Book Aid International, and copies of EduSpots’ own Kwame’s Adventure Series. In addition, new tables and chairs, and book boxes for younger readers, will be donated.
Commenting on the partnership, Emeritus Professor Gloria Agyemang, Chair of EduSpots’ Global Trustees and a Ghana Board Director commented, “We are delighted to start this relationship with Ghana Library Authority in Teshie, and we hope that this will be the start of longer term collaboration between the two organizations to enhance library services and wider education in Ghana.”
Mr. Ziblim Alhassan, Executive Director (Ag.) of the Ghana Library Authority, added: “This partnership with EduSpots demonstrates our shared vision of strengthening library services as vibrant learning hubs and life transformation centres that drive literacy, digital inclusion, and lifelong learning.”
The partnership will be launched at 10am on the 20th September 2025, with an event at the Teshie Community Library bringing stakeholders together to celebrate Emmanuel Adjjei’s return from his 10,000km journey.
