This week, EduSpots’ Ghana-based NGO welcomed new members to its board as EduSpots looks to further strengthen its governance oversight within Ghana as we prepare to expand the network from 50 to 100 Spots in 2026.
We firstly welcomed Emeritus Professor Gloria Agyemang, previously Executive Dean of the School of Business and Management at Royal Holloway, University of London, UK. She is also Chair of Trustees in the EduSpots UK board, and plays a pivotal role in bridging the Global and Ghana based governance and is deeply committed to opening access to transformational educational opportunities.
Secondly, we welcome Avril Kudzi as a Ghana Director. Avril has been a highly committed Advisory Group member since 2023, bringing huge experience as Country Manager for the Jacobs Foundation, and previous Country Director of VSO, Nigeria, also a Co-Founder of the Partnership for Volunteering and Development, bringing a passion for volunteerism and expansive knowledge of education and systems change.
Thirdly, we welcome Dr Richard Amoah, who joins us as Chair of the Board of the Directors of the Ghana NGO having been an advisory group member and a consultant with EduSpots previously. Dr Amoah is currently Head of Research and Stakeholder Engagement at Education Sub-Saharan Africa, having previously worked as Head of Programmes with Afrikids, bringing a passion for using data and indigenous narratives for educational advancement at the foundational level.
The other two members of the Ghana NGO board are the two founding Directors: Francis Yeboah, who played a significant role in establishing EduSpots (then Reading Spots), leading community engagement from 2016-2020 and developing the Spot concept from it’s origin, and Cat Davison, Chief Executive Officer, who has led EduSpots throughout its journey since origin, working with hundreds of Catalysts across Ghana and beyond whilst also full-time teaching for most of this time.
On this occasion, we were also delighted to welcome Sally Ofori-Yeboah, who joins the Global Board this month, having supported through the advisory group since 2023. Mrs Ofori-Yeboah has a wealth of experience in program and project management, capacity building and civil society organisation leadership, currently an Executive Advisor at the Campaign for Female Education (CAMFED), Ghana, as well as serving as CAMFED Ghana’s Head of Programmes as well as CAMFED Ghana’s National Director. Katie Allen-East, previous Head of Development at EduSpots, and Interim Director of Global Grants Management at Women for Women International also joins the Global board.
Ahead of the board meeting, the group engaged in collaborative training with members of the EduSpots staff team, with discussions stretching across EduSpots’ model of change, staffing approach, MEL systems, safeguarding, communications, fundraising and plans for future expansion and potential scale journey.
The detailed questioning left EduSpots’ staff with plenty of food for thought, combined with a resounding conviction that EduSpots was carving a unique path through in its aim to advance educational equity through a community-led model that involves both Catalysts and learners in shaping their own futures, through fun, community-rooted and future-ready education.
The EduSpots team send a particular thank you to Robin Todd and the T-Tel team for their generous offer of conference space for the day and warm hospitality.
It was also a joyful surprise to receive a check-in visit from our inspiring Patron, Professor Elsie Effah Kaufmann, Dean of the School of Engineering Sciences and national education icon as the lead QuizMistress of the National Maths and Science Quiz.
One thing is clear: our core team and wider family of partners and supporters is strengthening as we look to build a team with purpose, passion and a daring commitment to educational transformation in Ghana, and beyond.
