“You can’t come and tell the community what to do. But you need to work with the community to drive and find the solutions that work for them, and I think that EduSpots does that so well – so for me it was a no-brainer to say, let’s fund this.” – Yvonne Abba-Opoku
In 2025, the King Charles III Charitable Fund awarded EduSpots a grant to support its work in igniting digitalised community-led education in 50 underserved communities in Ghana through the Ignite Programme.
The Ignite Programme aims to support EduSpots in giving over 10,000 children and young adults access to quality education through 50 community-led learning hubs that foster academic and personal growth. These hubs provide mentorship, leadership training, and essential literacy programs, encouraging young learners to pursue education and unlock their full potential.
On December 5, 2025, Yvonne Abba-Opoku, Head of Governance and Operations at the King Charles III Charitable Fund, visited the New Ebu and Elmina Spots in Ghana’s Central Region.
During the visit, she met with staff from EduSpots, including Cat Davison, Prince Ampofo, Isaac Kobby Ayibor, Abdul-Wadud Suleiman, William Donkor, and Elvis Kwofie.
She also engaged with Community Catalysts and learners from New Ebu’s Ignite Equity Club, reinforcing collaboration and shared commitment to strengthening education in local communities, getting to know their interests as individuals, and exploring their reflection journals.
Mrs Abba-Opoku experienced firsthand what an EduSpot learning space looks and feels like. She observed Ignite Equity learners actively participating in club sessions and presenting their future aspirations. The learners also led an engaging question-and-answer session, asking thoughtful questions and receiving insightful responses that sparked meaningful dialogue relating to leadership, career development and the value of investing effort in education.
The visit concluded with a guided tour of the Elmina Spot, led by Elvis Kwofie, Learning Centre Officer, followed by a presentation from the EduSpots team. The presentation highlighted EduSpots’ community-led initiatives that are driving digitally enabled, locally led education across 50 communities in 11 regions of Ghana.
Following the visit, Yvonne said, “Renewed thanks for an inspiring and extremely worthwhile visit to EduSpots in New Ebu and Elmina. I was deeply impressed by your dedication and commitment to driving community-led education at both locations.”
On behalf of the whole EduSpots network and staff team, we extend our thanks to Ms Yvonne Abba-Opoku for her time, support and thoughtful interest in our work during this visit, and once again, for the King Charles III Charitable Fund’s decision to support EduSpots.
