Emmanuel Adjei is on the home stretch of an epic solo 10,000km cycle ride from Germany to Ghana and is set to arrive in Accra on Friday 19th September.
Emmanuel is currently in Sierra Leone — the twelfth country on his ‘Bike2MyRoots’ journey back to his hometown of Teshie, Ghana, with over 8000km cycled in 90 days on the road.
Every kilometre takes him closer to home — and closer to his dream of raising €100,000 for EduSpots’ work igniting future-ready education through community ownership, across 11 regions of Ghana.
Emmanuel, born in Accra, works as a sports scientist at his university’s hospital for sports medicine and sports cardiology in Munich. Since finishing the European leg of this incredible adventure, he’s navigated the Atlas mountains of Morocco, the bumpy desert roads of Mauritania, and sped through Senegal and the Gambia.
Emmanuel has been sharing his experience through his Instagram stories and reels at www.instagram.com/bike2myroots bringing his followers along for his ride. He has given us glimpses into his long days on the road, his journey through deserts and his unique camping spots. His epic journey has also captured media and local attention as he paused to engage with curious community members along the way.
As he pushes himself physically every single day, Emmanuel remains energised by his commitment to promote access to high-quality education across underserved communities in rural Ghana.
Emmanuel Adjei comments: “This cycling project is not solely about seeking the thrills of an adventure of a challenge. Inspired by the saying, “become the change you wish to see in the world,” I am driven to use cycling to mobilize funds, support, and raise awareness to ignite and sustain community-led change through education and empowerment in deprived Ghanaian communities.”
So far, Bike2MyRoots has raised over €14,000 which will support the expansion of EduSpots’ network of education hubs named ‘Spots’ to 100 within Ghana. Through the Spots, EduSpots works alongside over 400 local change makers named ‘Catalysts’ to involve learners in clubs for early years education, digital literacy, gender equity, STEM and environmental education, whilst developing their own leadership skills in the process.
Adu Bohaen Carlos, Chairperson of EduSpots’ Catalyst Committee and Akumadan Spot Project Leader, commented: “We wish Emmanuel all the best with the final part of this incredible journey to Accra. All of EduSpots’ Catalysts are behind you, Let’s turn your passion into education for everyone!”
Emmanuel’s Arrival
Emmanuel is expected to arrive in Accra on Friday 19th September. He plans for his arrival to be marked with a special event at Independence Square, where he will be welcomed by supporters, friends and family, alongside members of the EduSpots’ team. The team are excited to celebrate this remarkable and inspiring achievement: this journey will make Emmanuel the first Ghanaian to have undertaken an intercontinental journey of this kind by bicycle.
The celebrations will continue with a welcoming durbar in Teshie on Saturday 20th September. Please keep an eye on our feeds for further details of these events.
