“Consistency and perseverance can transform small efforts into meaningful impact.”
We are proud to celebrate Solomon Osabotey Abednego of Abofour Spot as our Catalyst of the Month for February, recognising his dedication, leadership, and commitment to helping Sparks succeed.
As a catalyst, Solomon’s motivation stems from seeing his sparks succeed in the monthly challenge (project-based learning). Their achievements serve as a powerful reminder that the effort invested in guiding and mentoring them is worthwhile.
In January, his Sparks placed second in the challenge, a result that strengthened his belief in their potential. Seeing how close they came to the top encouraged him to remain highly committed and provide even more support as they prepared for future challenges.
Beyond results, Solomon takes particular pride in helping Sparks transform their ideas into digital creations. One initiative he highlights is supporting them in digitising their creative work, guiding them as they move their ideas from manual formats into digital platforms.
This process helped the Sparks showcase their creativity in new ways and also strengthened their digital literacy skills, an essential competency for the modern learning environment.
Like many school-based spots, Solomon has encountered challenges in his role. One of the most common difficulties is coordinating sessions with Sparks who come from different classes and have varying schedules.
At times, gathering everyone together requires careful planning and flexibility. Another challenge has been occasionally pre-financing materials needed for the monthly challenges. Despite these obstacles, Solomon remains committed because he believes deeply in the positive impact the program has on young learners.
Through working with fellow Catalysts at the Spot to respond to local needs and support the literacy development of learners at the spot, Solomon has seen an improvement in his collaboration skills and substantial growth in his leadership skills as an educator and changemaker in his community.
Working with fellow Catalysts from different backgrounds has also exposed him to diverse ideas, experiences, and skills, helping him develop new perspectives and approaches to leadership.
For Solomon, perseverance and consistency have been the personal qualities that contributed most to his success.
Reflecting on lessons he has learned, Solomon encourages fellow Catalysts to remain consistent and manage their time effectively. He also advises them to carefully study the challenge guidelines and guide Sparks step by step through each task to help them achieve the best possible outcomes.
Looking ahead, Solomon hopes to help his Sparks continue performing strongly in the months ahead. While success in challenges is encouraging, he is equally committed to ensuring that the learners continue to improve academically and develop valuable skills for the future.
He also hopes to help maintain the strong reputation of Abofour Spot, the first EduSpots learning hub, ensuring that it continues to set an example for other Spots across the network.
To his fellow Catalysts, Solomon encouraged, “Let us remain committed to the mission. While we have the opportunity, let us continue to impact knowledge and help shape the character of these young ones.”
We celebrate Solomon for his commitment during February and for the lasting impact he continues to make at Abofour Spot.
Congratulations, Solomon! Your perseverance and leadership continue to inspire the EduSpots community.
