The new Zangbalun Spot expanded space is commissioned with wide community support!

The new solar-powered Zangbalun Spot space has been commissioned on Saturday 22nd November by the Chief, elders, and with  wide community support.

The Zangbalun Catalyst team led an incredible commissioning ceremony, complete with poetry, dancing and inspiring speeches. A wide range of people joined the event, ranging from the District Education office, to the Unit Committee, Assembly Man, parents, traditional and religious leaders, learners and teachers. Even several teams from nearby Spots in the Northern area came to join in the celebrations!

Zangbalun joined the network in 2022, and this Spot was birthed through the efforts of Abdul-Malik Iddrisu, a teacher from the community, with his team of Catalysts. Their Spot, hosted in a classroom, has been a hive of activity ever since. The remarkably committed Catalyst team have led clubs across EduKidz, DigiLit, EcoSTEM, Ignite Equity, also fully participating in all Keeping Spots Safe and Spot Lead activities, showing remarkable team commitment, with huge community support.

The chief donated the land and cement for the project, with the PTA supporting the electricity and the community also buying text books. The learners even contributed by planting new trees all around the Spot, with Catalysts adding decorations and educational activities.

We are also grateful to Ashworth Charitable Tryst, Baillie Gifford, Morel Trust, William Leech Trust, World Day of Prayer, Monica Ragliabati Trust and Oakdale Trust who came together to support the efforts of the local team.

Abdul-Malik’s Commissioning Speech

Some words from Zangbalun Catalyst Lead, Abdul-Malik Iddrisu’s speech today;

“Let us walk out of here with one commitment: that the Zangbalun Spot will never lack hands to run it, hearts to sustain it, and minds to grow it.

I want to encourage all of us here, to embrace the spirit of volunteerism.
Volunteerism is not just giving time; it is giving hope.
It is planting seeds whose fruits you may never personally eat, but which will feed generations after you.

When you volunteer to read with a child, you are shaping a leader.
When you help protect the Spot, you are protecting a community asset.
When you support an activity, you are strengthening the future.

Let us make Zangbalun a shining example of a community where everybody contributes, everybody belongs, and everybody benefits.

This library is a symbol
A symbol of what happens when a community rises.
A symbol of what happens when partners care.
A symbol of what happens when we put our children first.

But above all, it is a beginning.

A beginning of new ideas, new dreams, new opportunities, and new possibilities.

Let us fill this place with stories of success.
Let us raise innovators, creators, readers, thinkers, and leaders.
Let this Spot become a sanctuary where every child can say,
“Here, I discovered who I am capable of becoming.”

In conclusion,

As we officially commission the newly build Zangbalun Spot today, let us remember:

We are not just opening a building.
We are opening minds.
We are unlocking potentials.
We are investing in the future.

To EduSpots, to our special Catalyst, to the chiefs and elders, to every supporter, and to the entire community
Thank you for believing in this dream.
Thank you for walking this journey.
And thank you for helping us make history today.

May this Spot shine brightly.
May it inspire learning.
May it transform Zangbalun.
May God bless us all. Long live Zangbalun. Long live EduSpots.”
