Every month, we recognize an exceptional Catslyst who embodies the spirit of our community-led model.
We are delighted to announce Ebenezer Essieny Yeboah as the Catalyst of the Month for September. Ebenezer happens to also be the remarkable Spot Lead at Gomoa Manso Spot.
Located in the Central Region of Ghana, near Agona Swedru, Gomoa Manso Spot boasts of 35 learners and 7 Catalysts, who meet twice a week on Wednesdays and Fridays at 1:30 PM. Leading this vibrant community-based Spot is Ebenezer, affectionately known as Eben, who has been a Catalyst of inspiration..
In a recent interview with Nimatu, Peer Mentor at EduSpots, Ebenezer shared insights into his role and the dynamics of Gomoa Manso. Reflecting on his team’s collaboration, Ebenezer emphasized, “..for our monthly challenge tasks we meet together as a team and then we deliberate on what to write, what to do, who to involve and we come out with the classic presentations that we have been giving lately..”
Ebenezer’s time as a Spot Lead has been nothing short of impressive. Within just five months of leading the Spot team at Gomoa Manso Spot, the Spot was awarded first place in the July monthly challenge and secured second place in the August challenge. Additionally, the Spot earned a distinction in the phonics course organized by the EduKidz strand, showcasing the Spot team’s dedication to excellence.
Despite facing challenges such as limited access to essential materials like computers and writing tools, Ebenezer’s resourcefulness shines through. “Sometimes it difficult for us to find materials for the challenges …such us computers.. writing materials, interactive materials for kids,” he shared, “however, we improvise, and because of that we get the intended results”.
When asked about the state of the computers that the Spot secured from the Global Youth Movement funds, Ebenezer shared that they’ve done maintenance twice, but some computers have broken down completely. Currently, only 7 computers are working, which he acknowledged is a bit inadequate considering their needs.
Looking ahead, Ebenezer envisions a bright future for Gomoa Manso. “We want to maintain the Spot at a higher level so our learners can become teachers, nurses, lawyers, doctors, and Catalysts at Gomoa Manso,” he said. His vision underscores the importance of continuous growth and development for the learners.
Ebenezer’s inspiration for volunteering with EduSpots stems from a deep desire to make a positive impact. “I want a platform to help learners achieve their educational goals, see people happy, and also make an impact on the community and students,” he revealed.
As a leader, Ebenezer advocates for unity and collaboration among his peers. His advice to other Catalysts is simple yet profound: “Every Spot should be united, collaborate, communicate, and tolerate each other no matter what to make effective work done”.
Ebenezer’s journey with EduSpots is a testament to the power of dedication, resilience, and community spirit. We are incredibly proud to celebrate him as our September Catalyst of the Month and look forward to witnessing the continued impact of his efforts in Gomoa Manso and beyond.
Thank you, Ebenezer, for your unwavering commitment and for being a shining example of the transformative power of volunteerism. Your work paves the way for a brighter future for learners in Gomoa Manso community.
