The Climate Education Community of Practice (CECOP) is entering an exciting new chapter as we continue strengthening collaboration among organisations working to advance climate and nature-based education across Ghana.
Over the past few weeks, CECOP members have been working together to establish a stronger foundation for the community, with renewed commitments, improved coordination structures, and new opportunities for collaboration.
As part of this transition, the current member organisations (Afrikids, Climate Smart Training Solutions, EcoCare Ghana, EduSpots, Orgiis, RAIN, RAINS, RoNAG, the Sung Foundation and SYND) have signed updated Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs), reaffirming their shared commitment to building a vibrant network that promotes environmental education, knowledge sharing, and collective action.
Alongside this, CECOP has introduced a refreshed visual identity, including a new logo that reflects our shared vision for a collaborative and forward-looking community dedicated to climate education.
One of the key developments has been the transition from a single communication platform to a new CECOP WhatsApp Community supported by four thematic sub-groups. These sub-groups are designed to create more focused collaboration while allowing members to contribute according to their expertise and interests.
The four sub-groups are:
- Education and Curriculum Development, facilitated by RoNAG.
- Advocacy and Communications, facilitated by EcoCare Ghana.
- Community Building and Recruitment, facilitated by RAIN.
- Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning, facilitated by Afrikids.
Each sub-group will lead conversations, coordinate meetings, and develop a short strategy to guide collaborative work over the coming months. This structure aims to create greater ownership among member organisations while ensuring that CECOP remains an active space for learning, innovation, and partnership.
CECOP has also welcomed strong interest from organisations seeking to join the community. A new membership recruitment process is currently underway, with applications being reviewed collaboratively to ensure that new members align with CECOP’s vision and values. This reflects the growing recognition of the importance of coordinated climate education efforts across Ghana.
Beyond strengthening internal collaboration, CECOP members are already working together on joint initiatives. One upcoming example is the EduChamps Talk marking World Nature Conservation Day, which will bring together climate education practitioners from member organisations to share experiences, practical insights, and ideas for inspiring environmental action within schools and communities.
As the community continues to grow, our focus remains on creating meaningful opportunities for organisations to learn from one another, develop shared resources, strengthen advocacy, and improve the quality and reach of climate and nature-based education. At the same time, CECOP is strategically positioning itself to influence environmental education policy and practice in Ghana, particularly at the foundational level, by fostering collaboration, generating shared learning, and championing approaches that help embed climate and nature-based education more effectively within the country’s education system.
We are grateful to every organisation that continues to invest time, expertise, and enthusiasm into this growing community. Through collaboration, we can achieve far more than any one organisation could alone.
We look forward to the next phase of CECOP as we continue building partnerships, supporting innovation, and empowering communities across Ghana to take meaningful action for people and the planet.
