EduSpots has been selected for the Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship!

We are excited to announce that EduSpots has been selected by MEST Africa as one of 12 Ghanaian EdTech startups for the third cohort of the Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship.

Selected from hundreds of applications, EduSpots will receive six months of training and mentorship, and up to $60,000 in equity-free funding, followed by an additional year of post-programme support to scale our operations.

EduSpots’ EdTech Innovations

EduSpots has always embedded digital tools in the process of enhancing learning outcomes, with a WhatsApp for Learning approach key to enabling over 400 local volunteers named ‘Catalysts’ to engage in continuous collaborative learning through smart phone usage. The Catalysts in turn support 10,000 learners in accessing quality co-curricular opportunities at 50 physical learning Spots stretched across 12 regions of Ghana and Kenya.

In 2024, we designed and launched the EduSpots App, enabling communities to track educational activities alongside financial and resource management, whilst accessing the high quality resources, feedback and recognition systems needed to run clubs and wider activities for learners of all ages.

In late 2025, responding to growing demand, we introduced EduBytes: short courses comprising a blend of WhatsApp and Zoom training, providing hands-on activities to empower local change makers. So far, over 200 certifications have been given areas such Google Workspace, AI for Education, CV development and Canva Design.

Each Spot has received a tech kit of up to five tablets and a wifi kit, enabling to have the basic digital infrastructure to access learning opportunities. The network are launching a campaign to expand this access on the 23rd April 2026, in celebration of International Girls in ICT day.

The Future Ahead

In 2026, we are preparing for the official launch of EduSpots Unlocked, as we look to share learnings across the last decade of digitalised community-led education with the wider NGO community. We plan to offer products and support across the intersection between education, community building and digital skills, including an Edu-Animation YouTube channel.

We are also raising funders to add an additional 50 Spots to the EduSpots network, streamlining and expanding the App as a key tool as we look to simplify processes and access to learning opportunities, across digital skills, early years literacy, STEM and climate action.

Commenting on selection for the fellowship, Getrude Akulibe (captured above), Dulugu Spot Founder, now App Lead and Regional Coordinator reflected that:

“Being selected into this fellowship feels like making it into a world-class university of incubation. This is a profound opportunity that affirms the importance of our technology in education path and unlocks our true potential. I am eager to embrace every stage of this journey as we look to streamline our products, scale our reach or impact, and network with the innovators who share our vision.”

Our 2026 elected Catalyst Committee Chairperson, Nimatu Abdul-Rahman, shares:

“It is such a privilege to strengthen EduSpots’ community-led digitalized education and to grant transformative exposure to more Catalysts and learners in underserved areas, connecting them to the digital world.”

The EdTech Fellowship

Ahead of the launch event, the EduSpots EdTech team of Cat Davison (CEO), Prince Ampofo (Head of Leadership Programmes) , Isaac Kobby Ayibor (Communications and Digital Skills Manager) and Getrude Akunlibe (App Lead and Regional Coordinator) attended a two day intensive training exploring learning science and business development at the Google AI community centre in Accra, and are poised for an intensive learning programme across the next 2 years.

Unveiling the cohort in Accra, MEST Africa said the latest intake brings the total number of locally supported EdTech solutions under the programme to 36 since its launch in Ghana in 2024.

Programme data shows the fellowship has so far impacted over 691,000 learners nationwide, including more than 337,000 young women. It has also reached over 105,000 rural learners and nearly 20,000 persons with disabilities, highlighting its focus on inclusion.
