“I want to become a great person in the future by becoming a medical doctor. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.” – Beyonce
Beyonce Abena Mensah is a 10-year-old learner who is the DigiLit Club president at the Banda Kabrono Spot. Her passion for reading, leadership abilities, confidence, and a positive influence on her peers made her stand out as the learner of May.
At Banda Kabrono Spot, Beyonce started her journey as an EduKidz Club learner and later transitioned to join the DigiLit Club. Before joining the club, she read very slowly and was often shy when speaking in front of others. Through regular practice, guidance from the Catalysts, participation in monthly challenges, and the resources available at the Spot, she gradually improved her reading skills and became more confident.
At first, she spent more time playing with her colleagues. This gradually changed after joining the DigiLit Club; she became very engaged in club activities, which reduced her playing time and made her focus more on reading and hands-on activities.
Since joining the club, she can now read faster and pronounce difficult words confidently. Her stage fright has reduced, and she now takes the lead during presentations and can confidently present in the face of a camera without any fear.
Her resilience has been very inspiring. There was a time when she struggled to pronounce a certain word, and some of her peers made fun of her. Instead of giving up, she continued trying until she pronounced the word correctly. Since then, she has continued to work hard and never gives up, especially when reading or pronouncing difficult words.
Beyonce is also very curious and regularly asks thoughtful and impressive questions during sessions. “I sometimes marvel at the kinds of questions she asks,” said Nelson, a Catalyst at Banda Kabrono Spot.
Beyonce serves as the club president and regularly helps her peers with reading. She supports learners who struggle with pronunciation by teaching them how to pronounce difficult words correctly. She also encourages her peers to visit the Spot during their free time to read books and learn together.
Her peers admire her because of her reading ability and willingness to support others. Her decision to spend more time reading instead of playing has influenced many other learners to do the same because they want to improve and perform well like her during examinations and reading competitions.
One of Beyonce’s major achievements was winning the 2025 inter-schools reading competition in the Banda Circuit. Her improved confidence and literacy skills have also positively affected her academic performance positively.
Congratulations to Beyonce as she continues to excel academically, lead change at her Spot and serve as a role model for her mates in the Banda Kabrono community.
