Reading Spots fundraising events – Brighton and London

We were delighted to be able to host two events during Francis Yeboah’s visit from Ghana. Francis is the Reading Spots Manager in Ghana and has been part of the Reading Spots story from the very beginning. In February 2019 we were thrilled to welcome him to the UK. During his visit he spent time at Brighton College and Sevenoaks School, but was also able to visit other supporting schools in the areas. He also visited London and Cambridge in order to see more of the country.

However, two highlights from the trip were the fundraising events, during which many of our long standing supporters were able to meet Francis.

We held our annual fundraising dinner in Brighton College on Saturday, 23rd February. Throughout the evening we had speeches by Cat Davison, the founder of Reading Spots, various music performances by Brighton College students, and of course, a key note speech by Francis himself.

We also were able to sell lots of raffle tickets and special thanks goes to the organisations who donated prizes, which were the following:

And thank you also to parents who donated raffle prizes for the night!

We had a wonderful dinner and it was great to have so many guests. In total we raised over £3500 on the night.

We followed this up with a further fundraising event on Friday 1st March which we held at a West African restaurant in West London, called Pitanga. We brought together a lovely group of individuals who were all keen to meet Francis.

We had West African canapes and drinks, as well as, speeches by Cat and Francis. We also tested our guests knowledge with some trivia on Ghana and African literature. Throughout the evening we had wonderful music by The West African Highlife Collective.

At this event too we held a raffle and thanks go to the following organisations for the donation of prizes:

And Thanks also once again to individuals who donated items for the raffle.

At both events we were able to show our amazing new video – check it out here.

Thank you to everyone who attended these two events. We appreciate your support and all funds raised will go towards the completion of the expanded library in Abofour.
